Record the search before changing the site

Write down the search phrase, location, device and result type. A business-name search, a service search and a Maps search can produce different results. Keep a screenshot and the date. One phone gives you only one view of the results.

This simple record helps distinguish an access problem from an indexing issue or a competitive visibility problem. It also gives a provider something specific to investigate.

Check the Business Profile

Review whether the profile is verified, restricted or waiting for an action. Confirm the business name, category, contact details and actual operating arrangement. Look for an existing profile before creating a duplicate. Google determines the available verification method and the outcome of a review.

For a home-based service business, assess the service-area rules and whether customers visit the address. Avoid adding an invented office to target another town.

Check the website separately

Use Search Console where you have access to inspect the relevant URL and its indexing status. Check whether the page loads, whether crawling is blocked and whether it points to an appropriate canonical address. A recently moved site also needs working redirects and an updated sitemap.

A site search can provide a clue, but Google identifies URL Inspection as the more reliable diagnostic method. Repeatedly submitting the same page does not force a faster result.

Match the service to the information on the page

A useful page explains what you do, who it is for, the area served and the next step. Supply genuine work examples and answer the practical questions a buyer would ask. Keep the information understandable to someone unfamiliar with the business.

Google local ranking also considers distance and prominence. A profile can be valid and still appear differently for searches made in Port of Spain, Chaguanas or Tobago.

Build a prioritised next step

Fix confirmed technical or profile problems first. Then review the relevant service page and the information supporting it. Measure changes over an appropriate period, accounting for the limited information available from one search or one device.

For a DSDillon Marketing review, send the website, public profile link, target services and the search that caused concern. Keep credentials and verification codes out of the enquiry form.
